Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect during therapy sessions, especially my first session?

Our sessions focus on you, your concerns, and are more interactive and a dialogue. We will talk, problem-solve, and focus on solutions. I do more than just listen, nod, and validate: I work with you to come up with effective ideas and solutions. I can be skeptical and irreverent at times, and we may laugh and approach things with humor when that is appropriate.

How long is each therapy session, and how often will I attend?

Individual sessions typically last about 50 minutes, while couples or family sessions might extend to 75-90 minutes. Most clients attend therapy weekly or bi-weekly, though frequency can vary based on your goals, scheduling, and progress.
The number of sessions depends on your unique situation and goals. Short-term, solution-focused therapy may involve 6-12 sessions, while deeper work, particularly around trauma or complex issues, might continue for several months or longer. We’ll discuss your progress regularly to ensure your goals are being met.

Do you offer in-person sessions, virtual (online) therapy, or both?

I offer both. Most sessions are via phone with the option for video sessions. I also offer in-person sessions on a limited basis in my San Francisco office. For KAP (Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy), I offer both in-person and virtual sessions.
