Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy helps if you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or facing emotional, relational, or life challenges. A free 15-minute consultation is available to determine fit.

What should I do if I'm experiencing a mental health crisis?

In a crisis, contact emergency services or a crisis hotline. Resources include Access Helpline (415-255-3737) or National Lifeline (800-273-8255).

Do you prescribe medication?

No, but I can refer you to a psychiatrist or collaborate with your current provider if medication could help.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?

Please give at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be charged a fee.

Is everything I share in therapy confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is protected by law, with exceptions involving harm, abuse, or certain legal requirements. These will be discussed in your session.

Do you accept insurance, and what are your fees for therapy?

Insurance is not accepted, but we provide a 'super bill' for reimbursement. Payment is due before or after each session, regardless of insurance.

Do you work with individuals, couples, and families in therapy?

Yes, therapy is offered for individuals, couples, and families, tailored to your unique concerns using appropriate modalities.

How many sessions will I need, and how long does therapy usually last?

The number of sessions varies by your goals. Short-term therapy may be 6-12 sessions; deeper work may take several months or longer. We’ll review your progress regularly.

What can I expect during therapy sessions, especially my first session?

In your first session, we'll get to know each other, discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, and explore your goals. I'll ask about your history, challenges, and expectations. Future sessions involve exploring your experiences, gaining insights, and practicing new skills.

How long is each therapy session, and how often will I attend?

Individual sessions are about 50-55 minutes; couples or family sessions may be 75-90 minutes. Most clients attend weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly depending on their goals and schedule.

Do you offer in-person sessions, virtual (online) therapy, or both?

Mostly virtual sessions are available, with in-person appointments at the San Francisco office. KAP sessions may begin in-person and shift to video sessions.
